WWDC 2013 Keynote - 10/06/13

Apple's annual developer event at the Moscone Centre just finished. The event started with a minimalist video showing how Apple strives for perfection. Tim Cook took to the stage to a round of applause then, of course, gave fact and figure updates. They now receive over 1 million visits per day to Apple Stores and over 50 billion apps have been downloaded from the App Store in just under 5 years. There are now 900,000 apps, including 375,000 designed for iPad. Google I/O 2013 - 15/05/13

Google I/O 2013 has just wrapped up. Unlike the previous few years, they're just doing 1 keynote this year, so the 3+ hour marathon was crammed full of announcements, as well as many shots of people wearing Google Glass. Android

  • Google announced that there have now been 900 million Android activations and 48 billion app downloads, and revenue per user is up 2.5x year-over-year
  • Next came new Google Play services:
    • Fused Location Provider: using your phone's sensors to find your location. This should use just 1% of battery per hour
    • Geofencing: up to 100 locations per app
